I have returned from the cottage feeling recharged and rejuvenated! It was by far the most hippie-ish cottage experience I have ever had:

First off, there was no electricity, no toilets, no shower.

Also my boyfriend’s mum is a huge hippie and is actively practicing shamanism. In order to complete her practicum she needs 150 people to perform “soul journey’s” on. So my boyfriend and I volunteered to go on a soul journey that would ultimately find our inner power animals. One by one we had our turn. There were drums beating and smoking lavender to clear the energy in the air. My inner power animal is a wolf if you’re wondering. Pretty funny to be doing this by the water. Definitely an interesting and unforgettable experience.

Then, her friend Linda Rose arrived with a bunch of herbs and plants that immediately needed to be harvested. She is a medicine woman and heals with all natural ingredients. We learned about native tales, taught how to tie some really cool knots for the canoe, and how sucking garlic eases the pain of a root canal. She was quite an eccentric character and deeply attached to nature.

Talking to these women, finding my inner power animal, living without the necessities, being out in nature made, me realize how beautiful nature is. I felt so.. connected. In fact, I identify with Jennifer Aniston’s character in ‘Wanderlust’. Although I would never be able to permanently live without electricity, shower, toilets, I found the experience unforgettable. To be surrounded by clear water lakes, trees, farms and the constant smell of fire wood was actually blissful. And was devastating to leave.

    Back to real life.
